UZ Vice-Chairman chopped to death

KISHOREGANJ, Apr 24 (UNB) : Katiadi Upazila Vice-Chairman Rafiqul Islam Milon (42), who was stabbed by some terrorists Saturday evening in the upazila bus stand area, died at a hospital in the capital Sunday morning. Locals said when Milon along with his family members was retuning to his house by a microbus some 45 unidentified youths stopped the microbus in the area at about 6:30pm. As Milon tried to leave the spot, 810 other unidentified people joined the youths and attacked them. Sensing danger, Milon quickly got down from the vehicle and took shelter in a nearby sweetmeat shop where the assailants hit him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Nurul Islam Master, who accompanied the Vice-Chairman, was also injured grievously by the attackers. The injured were at first admitted to the Bajitpur Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital and later shifted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated. Milon was again shifted to Briton Hospital at Hatirpul area in the capital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 8am today.
