BENAPOLE (Jessore), Aug 28 (UNB): Thugs ransacked the house of a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader and looted valuables worth Tk 0.5 million (5.0 lakh) injuring four inmates at Laxmanpur village in bordering Sharsha Upazila Wednesday night.
Quoting villagers, the police said some local thugs had long been demanding toll from fertiliser trader and former upazila unit Juba Dal president Shamsur Rahman.
Following his refusal to pay, the thugs numbering 10/15 quipped with firearms and lethal weapons attacked his house at dead of night and vandalised the furniture and other valuables.
They also exploded two powerful bombs to create panic in the area.
Later, they looted valuables worth Tk 0.5 million, including two motorcycles, four bicycles, two colour televisions, two VCRs, two electric motors, three tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 0.2 million cash money.
The miscreants beat the house inmates mercilessly when they tried to resist them, leaving four injured including Shamsur Rahman and his brother Sirajul Islam.
Shamsur Rahman filed a case against eight people in this connection.
