Robbers took away valuables worth Tk 1.20 million from the residence of a businessman at Mirpur in the capital early Tuesday morning, police said.
Witnesses said a gang of 7 to 8 robbers stormed into the house of Shamsuddin at 180 South Pirerbagh in the area and started looting after holding the housemates hostage at gunpoint.
Family sources said the criminals beat up some of their members who tried to resist the gang from looting.
A sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station said the looted valuables were estimated around Tk 1.20 million. "Drives are on to nab the gang men," he added.
