Varsity student chopped to death

A university student was hacked to death by miscreants in Tongi town in Gazipur district on Friday. The dead is Mahiruddin, 24, a student of a private university and son of Jahirul Islam. Mahiruddin along with his friend was returning home by a motorcycle after placing floral wreaths at a Shaheed Minar around 5am. Unidentified miscreants, in a microbus, were following their bike. As the bikers reached Cherag Ali Ceramic Market area in Tongi, the microbus hit the bike from behind, leaving its riders injured. The criminals then got down from the microbus and indiscriminately chopped Mahiruddin with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. The criminals then fled the scene taking away with them his bike. Local people rescued and rushed Mahiruddin to a local hospital which referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead. His friend was receiving treatment in Tongi, according to private TV channels.
