Varsity teachers to abstain from work Tuesday
Saturday, 5 September 2015
Teachers of the 37 public universities in Bangladesh will abstain from work on Tuesday to press for review of the proposed eighth national pay scale.
The announcement was made on Saturday at a press conference by the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Associations (FBUTA). The 7th pay scale, effective from July 1, 2015, put secretaries, selection grade professors and major generals on first grade. But the new pay scale has brought down pay for selection grade professors and professors by three to four levels. Teachers have called strike at several universities demanding amendments to the proposal besides an independent pay scale for university teachers. The secretaries committee on May 13 this year recommended Tk75,000 as maximum and Tk8,250 as minimum pay after analysing the report by the Pay and Services Commission, according to bdnews24.com.
