VAT system integrated with customs, A-Chalan

National Board of Revenue (NBR) has integrated its VAT system with the customs and automated chalan (A-Chalan) of the finance division to facilitate the businesses.
NBR chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem formally inaugurated the Application Programming Interface (API) system at the NBR conference room on Wednesday.
Officials from the finance division, among others, were present at the event.
The NBR chief said they would go for digitalisation of all services gradually.
The revenue authority also wants to reduce its dependence on the foreign vendors for software development to ensure security and secrecy of its activities, he said, stressing on the need for capacity building of the IT department of NBR.
Abdul Mannan Shikder, member (VAT Implementation and IT), said that the online system would help enhance the tax payment culture and suggested preparing user guides of online services to make those user-friendly.
Md Masud Sadiq, member (VAT policy), said that tax payments could not be made offline in future.
