VCs of public universities to be appointed thru' open advertisement

Vice-chancellors of the public universities will henceforth be appointed through open advertisement, the government announced Thursday, reports UNB
This system will be effective gradually for the appointment of Pro-VCs and treasurers of the universities.
The open advertisement system for the appointment of vice-chancellors exists in the western world, including Harvard and Cambridge University.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the search committee, formed by the caretaker government, at the Education Ministry ThursdayChairman of the committee and education secretary Md Momtazul Islam was in the chair.
Education adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman attended the meeting on special invitation, as it made such an important decision.
The meeting also recommended co-opting two more civil-society members/academics to make the search committee more effective and for its institutionalization.
