Veg prices soar in Tangail market

TANGAIL, Oct 07: Varieties of vegetables are selling at a high rate in both the retail and wholesale markets.
Low income group across the district are suffering much for the price hike.
Market sources said winter vegetables like radish, bottle guard, brinjal, okra, bean, red spinach, etc have started appearing in the market and those are being sold at a high rate.
Vendor Joson Miah in the district town said there is abundant supply of vegetable in the market and almost every item is selling at a high rate.
Each kg of brinjal is being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 50, bottle guard at Tk 30 to Tk 50 per piece, okra at Tk 75 to Tk 80 per kg, radish at Tk 15 to Tk 20 per kg, bean at Tk 80 to Tk 100 per kg.
Trader Ahmed Ali of Park Moydan Bazar said prices have increased due to high demand.
Early winter vegetables are selling at a high price every year, he added.
Farmer Chan Miah said a good number of farmers could not prepare their land this season due to untimely rain.
Besides, some locals urged the authority concerned to take immediate steps for monitoring the market so that traders can hike the price by making syndicates.
