Vegetable oil refiners refute media report

Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners' and Vanaspati Manufacturers' Association (BVORVMA) Tuesday contradicted news report published and broadcast on fixation of palm oil price Monday and said that the edible oil traders did not commit to sell palm oil at a rate of Tk 59 per kg.
News report were published and broadcast quoting commerce minister Faruk Khan that the prices of soybean and palm oils had been fixed at Tk 73 and Tk 59 per kg respectively at mill gates.
Commerce minister Monday had a meeting with the traders after the price of the essential shot up in the market in recent times.
A press release of the association said that some of the disseminated information was wrong.
"The decision to sell edible oil at a rate of Tk 73 at retail level is only applicable to the existing stock," the press release added.
No decision was taken regarding branded bottled edible oil in the meeting, the release claimed
In the meeting the traders requested the government to import sufficient amount of edible oil on an emergency basis to stabilise the market and the association would extend all help to the government for the import.
