SHARIATPUR: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader Friday said vehicular movement on the much-talked-about Padma Bridge will start by 2018.
“The construction works on the Padma Bridge is continuing defying all odds. Vehicles will start plying the Padma Bridge by 2018,” he told reporters while visiting the construction work on a link road of the Padma Bridge project at Jajira point in Shariatpur.
He said all the works on the Padma Bridge project are progressing well simultaneously.
Obaidul said the launch and ferry ghats will be shifted to Shimulia of Louhajang upazila next month for the construction of the Padma Bridge.
Sinohydro, a Chinese state-owned hydropower engineering and construction company, will start the river training work in January next, he said adding that China Major Bridge Engineering Co Ltd has already started some construction works on the main part of the country's longest bridge.
The minister said some instruments for the bridge are now being made in Singapore, China and Germany, according to a news agency.
