Verdict shocked me, says Law Minister

Thursday, 18 September 2014

In an immediate reaction to the verdict on the appeal against Delwar Hossain Sayedee's death sentence, Law Minister Anisul Huq said it shocked him too much as he had expected the maximum punishment-death, reports UNB.
"I'm shocked with the verdict. Although I've accepted the judgment, I'm suffering mentally," he said while talking to reporters at his Gulshan residence Wednesday.
"Being a minister and a citizen of the country, I've to respect the apex court order," he said.
Replying to a question about the government's reported engagement in negotiations with Jamaat-e-Islami, the minister said, "There has been no understanding with Jamaat. It's baseless…question doesn't arise for any negotiation."
Anisul Huq went on, "The government never negotiated with the criminals who had committed crimes against humanity."
Responding to another query about appeal against the verdict, the minister said, "I can't say anything until receiving the full copy of the verdict. The matter will be considered after receiving the full copy of the verdict."
