Dhaka City Awami League (AL) general secretary and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram) said Wednesday that a vested quarter had carried out killings in various names at different times to create a vacuum in the merit and leadership, reports BSS.
"All these killings were interlinked and those involved in the killings were of identical ideologies," he said.
The AL leader said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
Dhaka City South unit Mahila Awami League organised the discussion at the party headquarters at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital marking the 'Day for Physically Challenged persons' with its president Shaheda Khanam Shaheen Laskar in the chair.
Mahila AL president Ashrafunnessa Mosharraf, organising secretary Mahmuda Khatun Krik, Dhaka city south unit Mahila AL general secretary Sabera Begum and organising secretary Shirin Poonam Nayeem, MP, were the discussants, among others.
Maya said, "The month of December is the month of joy as well as sorrow to the whole nation as we achieved freedom by defeating the Pakistani occupation forces on the 16th of this month while eminent intellectuals were killed by the retreating occupation forces and their local collaborators on the 14th at the penultimate period of independence."
