KHULNA, Apr 11 (UNB): Commerce Minister Lt Col (retd) Faruq Khan said a vested quarter was hatching a conspiracy to make Bangladesh a dysfunctional state.
"You need to remain alert about the vested quarter conspiring to make Bangladesh a failed state," he said in a view-exchange meeting with local businessmen and civil society members at Khunla Chamber of Commerce Thursday night.
Faruq Khan said an evil force was trying to destabilise the country creating new issues, as the government had initiated a process for the trial of war criminals.
Terming valid the cabinet decision scrapping the lease allocation of opposition leader Khaleda Zia's cantonment house, he said the process followed in allocating the house was illegal.
The commerce minister assured his audience of providing gas through pipeline to Khunla and modernising the Mongla Port. State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian, Divisional Commissioner Yunusur Rahman and business leaders, among others, spoke at the meeting.
