Law Commission report says

Vexatious cases take 'pandemic' shape in country

FE REPORT | Friday, 8 September 2023

A Law Commission report said that false and vexatious cases have taken a 'pandemic' shape in the country.
The Law Commission which is chaired by the former Chief Justice A B M Khairul Haque has recently sent such a report to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. However, legal experts say that the Law Commission has given such an opinion out of its jurisdiction.
The Law Commission submitted the report on August 29 in the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee related to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs regarding the pending cases in different courts.
It was said on page 8 of the 46-page report, "Filing of false, baseless and harassing cases have taken an 'pandemic' shape in most courts of the country through misuse of the law. Through this, many innocent people are subjected to unnecessary imprisonment, harassment and multifaceted damages in various criminal cases."
