FE Report
Necessary training and awareness among workers can help them fight any fire incident, thus saving their lives and factory assets. Some 130 workers of Medlar Apparels Ltd at Ashulia proved it again by preventing a fire incident that broke out at the unit on June 20.
To give recognition to such a courageous act, VF Corporation and Sinha Medlar Group jointly handed over gifts among its 7,000 workers Friday.
VF Corporation is an American apparel giant that sources products from Sinha Medlar Group along with some 65 sourcing units.
Denham Greie, country manager of VF Corporation, was present in the programme as the chief guest, and handed over gift vouchers among the workers.
He said VF Corporation sources apparel products worth $500 million from some 65 apparel units in Bangladesh.
The company has planned to increase its sourcing from Bangladesh, he added.
Irteza Zulfiquer Arif, executive director of Sinha Medlar Group, said: "Safety is our priority, and 50 per cent of our total workers have already received fire-fighting training. Rest of the workers will be trained by December."
Sinha Medlar annually produces apparel products worth $20 million to $25 million for VF Corporation, he added.
