Victory Day Basketball Tournament begins today

The Total Victory Day Basketball Tournament, organised by Bangladesh Basketball Federation and sponsored by Total Lubricants and Total Gaz Limited, begins today (Sunday) at the Mirpur Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in the city, reports UNB.
Youth and Sports Adviser Tapan Chowdhury will formally inaugurate the tournament in the afternoon as the chief guest.
Nine teams, split into two groups, will compete in the round Robin League meet with the two top teams from each group qualifying for the semi-finals.
The tournament budget has been estimated at Tk 120,000, which will be borne entirely by the sponsors.
The champions and the runners-up will be given trophies while the best player will receive prize bonds worth Tk 2,000.
Bangladesh Basketball Federation Vice President and tournament committee Convenor Mahtabur Rahman disclosed the details at a press conference Saturday.
Federation joint secretaries Masud Mobaraki and Akhlas Hossain, and Total Lubricants Managing Director Syed Ruhul Huq and Premier LP Gas Ltd. sales manager Mohammad Mujibur Rahman were also present.
Replying to a query, Mahtabur Rahman said they are planning to hold the National Basketball Competition right after the Indo-Bangla Games to be held in February in Bangladesh.
Participating teams: Group A - Josephites, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Police and Eagles;
Group B - Dhumketu Club, Bangladesh Rifles, Bangladesh Navy and BKSP.
