Victory Day being celebrated

Victory Day today (Tuesday). The nation is celebrating the 44th Victory Day through various programmes. People from all walks of life have been paying homage to the three million martyrs for their supreme sacrifice for the country during the Liberation War in 1971. The day started with a 31-gun salute. People from all walks of life will pay tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreath at the National Memorial at Savar. Marking the day, a colourful parade will be held at National Parade Square in the Old Airport area at 10am with the participation of valiant freedom fighters, armed forces, law enforcers. The president will attend the function as chief guest and will take salute at the parade. The prime minister will attend the function as special guest. The day is a public holiday. The national flags are hoisted atop government, semi-government and private offices as well as offices of autonomous bodies across the country. Important buildings and establishments have been illuminated. Important roads and road islands have been decorated with miniature national flags, colourful festoons and digitized banners portraying the memorable moments of the nation's victory in the war of liberation, according to a news agency.
