Violence over war crimes trial verdict won\\\'t be tolerated: Kamal
Sunday, 2 November 2014
State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has sounded warning against those planning to create chaos over the judgment in a war crimes case on Sunday. Speaking to the reporters he said zero tolerance will be shown towards those who will try to shoot trouble on a tribunal verdict scheduled for today on war crimes accused Jamaat-e-Islami policymaker Mir Quasem Ali. ‘Stern actions will be taken if anyone tries to destabilise the situation in the country and engage in acts of sabotage anywhere,’ the junior minister said while speaking with the journalists in the city. He said the law enforcers have already been asked to remain alert to fend off any untoward incident. Additional police force along with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel have been deployed at different strategic points in Dhaka city ahead of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2’s judgment as well as 2-day nationwide hartal being enforced by Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir across the country. Mir Quasem Ali has been brought to the Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur district amid tight security. Kamal said although there was no violence during Thursday’s hartal called by Jamaat in protest against awarding capital punishment to its Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami for wartime offences, the law enforcers will keep vigil considering the security of public life and property, according to a news agency.
