VIP candidates contesting Dec 29 JS polls

A number of VIP candidates are in the election race from different constituencies with peoples' attention fixed on them in view of the significance of the polls to be held tomorrow (Monday) after straight seven years, reports BSS.
Of them, Bangladesh Awami League president Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia drew everybody's attention as both of them were Prime Minister of the country and led their parties and alliances to power since restoration of Democracy in 1990.
Sheikh Hasina is contesting from her home constituency Gopalganj-3, where her main rival is SM Zilani of BNP. She is also vying from Bagerhat-1 and Rangpur-6 parliamentary seats, where her main contestants are Sheikh Wahiduzzaman and Nur Mohammad Mandal of BNP respectively.
Khaleda Zia is contesting from her home constituency Feni-1, where her main rival is Faiz Ahmed of Awami League. She is also vying from Bogra-6 and 7 constituencies, where her main rivals are Mohammad Momtaz Uddin of AL and Mohammad Altaf Ali of Jatiya Party respectively.
Jatiya Party chairman and former president Hussain Muhammad Ershad is contesting from Rangpur-3, Kurigram-2 and Dhaka-17 seats while his wife and JP central leader Rawshan Ershad is vying from Gaibandha-5 and Mymensingh-4 constituencies.
Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh chairman and former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury is vying from Munshiganj-1 and Dhaka-6 constituencies.
Speaker Jamir Uddin Sircar is contesting from Panchagarh-1 while Deputy Speaker Akhter Hamid Siddiqui from Naogaon-3.
AL general secretary Abdul Jalil is vying from Naogaon- 5, where his main rival is Abdul Latif Khan of BNP. BNP secretary general Khondakar Delwar Hossain is contesting from Manikganj-1 constituency, where his main rival is ABM Anwarul Haque of AL.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami is contesting from Pabna-1, while its Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid from Faridpur-3.
Former Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan is contesting from Narsingdi-3 as an independent candidate.
