Viqarunnisa students block city road for 4 hours
Protest against decision to shut Dhanmondi branch
FE REPORT | Wednesday, 12 October 2022
A group of students of Dhanmondi branch of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (VNSC) and their guardians on Tuesday staged a demo on the Mirpur Road in the city to protest proposed shutting of the school branch.
The protesters blocked the road for nearly four hours from 12:00pm to 4:00pm demanding cancellation of the decision and establishing a permanent campus of the school in Dhanmondi.
The parents of the agitating students said that the VNSC authority recently told them to shift their children to other branches of the school as the Dhanmondi branch may shut soon.
The school authority told the parents that the branch is counting huge losses every month and that has forced them to take the decision to shut this branch, and shift the existing students to other branches of the school.
Currently, the VNSC's Dhanmondi branch has total of 1,900 students in two shifts along with 65 teachers.
A guardian, seeking anonymity, told the FE: "Not just the students and their parents but also many of the teachers are in distress knowing that there has been a decision of shutting down the VNSC's Dhanmondi branch."
She said many families settled in Dhanmondi and adjacent areas only because their children got admission to that branch of the VNSC school.
