FE REPORT | Wednesday, 28 February 2024

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Murad Hossain Sarkar, a senior teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College's Azimpur branch, on a two-day remand in a case filed for allegedly sexually harassing a student.
Judge of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka, Zaki-Al-Farabi, passed the order after hearing on a petition filed by police seeking seven-day remand for Murad Hossain.
Earlier, Lalbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Faiyaz Hossain, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand.
On early Tuesday, he was arrested from his home in Kalabagan, Dhaka.
The authorities of the Viqarunnisa Noon School and College have already suspended Murad Hossain, a math teacher of the institution, following the allegation.
Mother of a victim student on Monday filed a case with Lalbagh Police Station against Murad Hossain for allegedly sexually harassing her daughter.
The case statement said the teacher sexually abused the student on March 10 last year and many other days when she used to go for coaching classes held by him.
On February 7, this year students submitted complaints to the principal accusing the teacher of sexual harassment.
The school authorities on February 24 withdrew the senior teacher and later attached him to the principal's office in the face of the demonstration by a section of students and their guardians.
