GOPALGANJ, Aug 13: Viral fever and other seasonal diseases have taken a pandemic turn in Gopalganj town and its adjacent areas.
According to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital, over 200 patients with viral fever were admitted to the hospital in last four days and during this time over 800 patients given treatment from outdoor.
Sources said, people in the rural areas were more vulnerable to the diseases than those in the urban areas, with the children being the worst sufferers. The highly contagious viral fever weakens the patients with high temperature coupled with cough, sneezing, headache, ophthalmia and a bone-breaking pain all over the body.
There are reports of people affected with viral fever having 102-105 degree Fahrenheit temperature with severe headache.
Dr. Niaz Mohammad, Residential Medical Officer (RMO), Gopalganj Sadar Hospital told the F.E. that he is atributing the spread of the diseases to change in season and severe hot weather. In most cases medicines are not required to treat the patients attacked with the fever as simple treatment for a few days is the usual remedy for the diseases. Even then we are prescribing paracetamol, complete bed rest, liquid food and intake of sufficient water.
