The US Embassy in Dhaka has taken necessary measures to make the appointment process quick and hassle-free for Bangladeshi visa seekers, a senior official of the Embassy said.
"The visa-appointment time has been reduced to only two days from more than a couple of months previously… Besides, we have also reduced the waiting time for Bangladeshi visa seekers to just one hour," Elizabeth P Gourlay, consular section chief of American Embassy in Dhaka, said Wednesday.
She was speaking as the guest of honor at the monthly luncheon meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham), which was held at a city hotel with the AmCham president Syed Ershad Ahmed in the chair.
Previously, a visa seeker had to spend several hours at the embassy to get an appointment, Elizabeth noted.
To deliver quick hassle-free services, the embassy had already introduced another waiting room with enhanced window supports for Bangladesh visa seekers, she said.
She also mentioned that all procedures regarding the US visa were now going through the commuting process.
Elizabeth, however, advised the visa seekers, especially for the DV (diversified visa), to make sure their names and addresses accurately, and also in details.
Speaking on the occasion, the AmCham president said thousands of Bangladeshis are staying in the USA and the number is increasing gradually.
He expressed the hope that the US authority would give more opportunities for Bangladeshis to visit and settle there.
UNB adds: Elizabeth P Gourlay, the chief of consular section of American Embassy in Dhaka, laid emphasis on providing correct information by individuals for being considered as strong candidates for getting US visas.
