Viyellatex: An alternative to chemical fertiliser
Tuesday, 4 May 2010
Kitchen wastage is no longer a throw away matter. Now the refusals are being mixed with micro dust, a waste from spinning mills, and used in the production of high quality compost fertiliser by Viyellatex Ltd.
In a test conducted by the soil science department of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), it has been discovered that the fertiliser produced by Viyellatex is not only of a higher quality but also less costly.
A total of 15 tonnes of compost fertiliser worth of Tk 0.45 million is being produced with the workers' lunch wastage. This new fertiliser is called 'Viyella Compost Fertiliser', said a press release.
Located in the industrial zone of Maona in Sripur, the fertiliser factory covers a land area of 10 bighas. Without the use of any extra chemicals, this fertiliser is made by decomposing lunch wastes, microdust from the mills, manure and chicken excrements in underground reservoirs separately.
A certain portion of the produced fertiliser is distributed among local poor farmers for free. In the last 2 months, a total amount of 200 kilogrammes were distributed among 100 farmers.
Chairman of the factory KM Rezaul Hasnat said, "The fertiliser initially was used in Viyellatex's own vegetable gardens. Finding the result favorable, the initiative was taken to manufacture it commercially."
Viyellatex Ltd distributed fertilisers in Mulaid, Sripur in Gazipur Thursday for free as a part of their corporate social responsibility. Vice chairman of the company Ahsan Kabir Khan distributed the fertiliser. He said, "The production and usage of this organic fertiliser has put Viyellatex Ltd into a new level among the eco-friendly firms of Bangladesh for resisting environmental damage done by chemical fertilisers."
