VoIP equipment seized at Shahjalal (R) Airport

Hardware worth Tk 100 million for VoIP operations has been confiscated at the Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport in Kurmitola, Dhaka. Customs intelligence officials seized the equipment, which can be used for international call terminations through an IP-based network, from Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport’s air-freight unit on Monday. “On August 10, a total of 118 cartons arrived from Hong Kong. After waiting for over 21 days for a claimer, the cartoons have been opened,” said Customs Intelligence Division’s chief Moinul Khan. The boxes contained 32 types of banned items, which can be used for VoIP or voice over internet protocol operations, he said. The cartons were destined for a certain ‘MS Sadia Trading’ at 28/B Toynbee Circular Road in Dhaka’s Motijheel area, but no such organisation was found in that address, said the customs official, according to a news agency.
