VOIP licence to be issued from Nov, minister tells JS

The government is going to issue Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) licence from November to ensure smooth and cheap telecommunication, facility, post and telecommunication minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju told parliament Tuesday.
"We have taken steps to stop illegal VOIP connections and it pays off as the duration of telephone calls increased manifold," he said in reply to a supplementary of AL lawmaker Talukdar Mohammad Yunus seeking legal action to stop the illegal VOIP connections.
The minister in reply to a supplementary question of another Awami League legislator Sirajul Akbar said the government would start supply of laptop at a price of Tk 10,000 to transform the country into a digital Bangladesh.
In reply to a question of Jatiya Party lawmaker Begum Noor-e-Hasna Lily Chowdhury, he said that electronic money order service is now been provided through 966 post offices across the country. Responding to a question of Awami League legislator Benazir Ahmed, Mr Raju said that the government has initiated a project to set up information centres in all the post offices located in rural areas, 70 per cent expenditure of which will be met through foreign assistance.
