Voters' enrolment works to start in BCC from Sept 22

BARISAL, Aug 22 (UNB): Works for preparing voters' list will begin in the Barisal City Corporation (BCC) areas from September 22.
A preparatory workshop in this connection will be held here tomorrow (Thursday).
According to District Election Officer Manirul Islam, a letter in this connection containing necessary instruction from the Election Commission (EC) has reached here recently.
In the letter, it was stated that works for voters' enrolment in Barisal district would be started on the third week of September after the Sylhet division and in the first phase it would cover BCC areas.
Sources said already 130 assistant registration officers for the 30 wards of BCC and 85 unions and five municipalities of Barisal district have been appointed.
Besides, selection of 1,200 enumerators at an average of one for every 300 voters, 250 supervisors and 400 computer operators for data entry is also going on.
Schoolteachers are given preferences for enrolment works, and college teachers and officials for supervisors.
Already 370 applicants applied until now against the 400 posts of data entry operators and date of submitting applications would be closed on August 28 and examination to select the qualified candidates would be held between September 4 and September 6.
From the data entry operators, one technical team manager and one team leader would be selected. They may be given per head Tk 12,000 as honorarium for their works.
Data entry operators and supervisors would be paid Tk 5.0 and Tk 1.0 per voter and after primary field works of collecting information, works on data entry, taking picture and fingerprints would be done through the 905 centres in the district.
The BCC areas have been divided into six parts for voters' enrolment, officials said.
