The voters' turnout in Monday's 9th parliamentary elections was about 80 percent, one of the highest in the country's history, Election Commission (EC) said Tuesday.
The EC said the final list of elected candidates in the national polls will be published in government gazette on Thursday, Election Commissioner M Sohul Hussain told reporters at his office on Tuesday. "The voters' turnout will be about 80 percent. It's a big turnout," he said responding to a question from a reporter.
Terming the elections as free and fair, he said the EC has been waiting for such an election for last two years. "People's expectations have been reflected in poll results," he said.
When his attention was drawn to the wide margin in poll results between two alliances, Sohul said the verdict of the people has made it possible.
