Voting for NCC Ward 2 by-polls underway

Voting for the by-election to Ward No 2 of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) for the post of councillor is going on peacefully on Saturday. The polling began at 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without break. The Ward 2 councillor’s post fell vacant with the death of councillor and NCC panel mayor Nazrul Islam, who was abducted along with six other people in Narayanganj on April 27 and subsequently murdered. Three candidates – Nazrul’s wife Selina Islam Beauty with ‘Lion’ as election symbol, joint secretary of Siddhirganj upazila unit Jubo Dal Iqbal Hossain with ‘Apple’ and Shamim Osman’s relative Masud Rana with ‘Lotus’ are in the polls race. A total of 16,729 voters – 8,516 males and 8,213 females – are eligible to exercise their franchise in eight polling stations in the by-election, according to UNB.
