Voting on in Jokiganj municipality by-poll

Balloting is under way in by-election to Jokiganj municipality in Sylhet district on Saturday. Local administration sources said the voting, which began at 8:00am, was continuing peacefully in all nine polling centres in the north-eastern Upazila town. The voting will end at 4:00pm. Officials at the local election office and the assistant superintendent of police said in the afternoon though five out of nine polling centres are vulnerable, no untoward incident has been reported till 12noon. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel are patrolling the centres apart from police, according to private TV channels.
