AMMAN, Nov 20 (AFP): Polling stations opened under tight security across Jordan Tuesday in a parliamentary election focusing largely on economic woes.
Nearly 2.5 million Jordanians, of which 49.5 per cent are women, have registered to choose from around 885 candidates, including a record 199 women, who are vying for a seat in the 110-member lower house of parliament, with six seats reserved for women.
A total of 1,434 polling stations opened at 7:00 am (0500 GMT) and were set close at 7:00 pm. Some 40,000 civil servants had been mobilised to help organise the elections, according to officials.
