The name of mobile phone operating company Aktel has been changed to 'Robi', the rising sun and a symbol that brings the first gleam of light to show the day.
The company's transformation came amid its strong optimism to stimulate massive economic benefits through telecommunication sector.
The re-branding name of Aktel came into effect soon after the Robi officials unveiled the new logo and branding with rising the sun at dawn Sunday at a colourful ceremony at Suhrawardi Uddyan in the city.
"Robi aims to be an important partner of digital Bangladesh and the vision 2021 which is for stimulating massive economic benefits, pledging that its main focus will be on rural penetration and need-appropriate products like m-commerce, m-marketing , m-remittance etc," Axiata (Bangladesh) Ltd Managing Director and CEO Michael Kuehner said.
The telecom company also vowed to continue paying substantial part of revenue to the government in terms of taxes and fees.
The company has already invested $ 117 million in 2009 and will continue to invest more in 2010.
