Wadud Bhuiyan jailed for 20 yrs

CHITTAGONG, July 22 (bdnews24.com): A special court in Chittagong Sunday sentenced former BNP lawmaker Wadud Bhuiyan to 20 years in jail for corruption.
The verdict also provided for attachment of Bhuiyan's assets worth Tk 63.6 million (6.36 crore).
Public Prosecutor AKM Zahirul Haque said this was the first graft case verdict handed down outside Dhaka.
The arguments in the case concluded on July 17. Of the total 84 witnesses, statements of 62 were recorded.
Nurul Alam, an ACC assistant director of Dhaka filed the case as a plaintiff against the ex-lawmaker with Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station on March 21, accusing him of amassing wealth illegally.
