Walton to manufacture 2.0m compressors annually

Walton, the country's leading electronics, electrical, automobiles and home appliance products manufacturing and marketing company, is setting up a state-of-the-art factory at Chandra in Gazipur to manufacture some 2.0 million compressors of refrigerators and air-conditioners annually.
The construction work of the new ultra-modern factory is now going on in full swing at Chandra, the outskirts of capital Dhaka, and the factory is likely to go into operation at the beginning of 2016.
Out of 2.0 million compressors, 1.0 million will be exported abroad after meeting local demand.
The Walton authority has taken such a major initiative to make the country self-reliant in the refrigerator and air-conditioner manufacturing area and create employment opportunity in the country, according to a company statement.
The company hopes that prices of refrigerators and air-conditioners will come under purchasing capacities of more local customers as prices of the products will decease significantly.
Ashraful Ambia, chief engineer of the project, said "Construction work of the new manufacturing unit is now going on in full swing with a target to go into production in 2016".
He said it is learnt that Walton has already completed designs of compressors in keeping the environment and other all situations in mind.
It will be a composite factory as there will be steel, zinc, aluminum, copper casting and foundry combination system in the factory, side-by-side heavy testing and metal processing system, he added.
