Thursday, 14 August 2014
Detained war crimes accused Khan Akram Hossain of Bagerhat was interrogated by the investigation agency (IA) at a ‘safe home’ in the city after taking him into custody for ‘effective’ quizzing. According to the IA under the International Crimes Tribunals (ICT), a 4-member team grilled the accused for the whole day and collected ‘important’ information on the offences of crimes against humanity that had taken place in Shankharikati union under Kachua upazila in Bagerhat district during Bangladesh’s independence struggles in 1971. The investigators were M Helal Uddin, SM Altafur Rahman, Hari Devnath and Ataur Rahman. Besides, IA coordinator Abdul Hannan Khan and co-coordinator Sanaul Huq, both former IGPs, were present during the interrogation. The agency, however, declined to divulge the information they collected through the questioning. Earlier, the IA, through the prosecution, got approval from the ICT for the interrogation at ‘safe home’. Accused Akram, who had been on the run for long, was arrested by the police on June 20 from Rajshahi in compliance with the ICT order, according to UNB.
