Saturday, 3 July 2010

CHANDPUR, July 2 (bdnews24.com): Foreign Minister Dipu Moni has termed those aiding and abetting liberation war criminals the enemies of the nation.
She alleged a certain quarter was standing against the people in a bid to save those who had committed crimes against humanity in the nation's independence struggle in 1971. "We will have to stand up against them," she said.
She was distributing cheques of 'Shech-chhadhin Tahabil' (Self-controlled funds) at Sadar Upazila Parishad Auditorium Friday.
"The people of the country are now united against the enemies in a bid to make the independence of Bangladesh meaningful", she added.
The minister also claimed that some people who are against the country's development are creating disorder and anarchy in the name of politics.
Chandpur Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Yousuf Gazi presided over the function.
"Different governments had destroyed the country's jute industry during their stay in power, while the present government is working to develop it. We will regain the golden tradition of jute", she said.
Deputy Commissioner Priyotosh Saha, Sadar Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Nurul Islam Nazim Dewan and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahinur Shahin Khan were present on the occasion.
In the ceremony, 89 cheques, worth more than Tk 0.3 million, were distributed among people and institution under Chandpur Sadar and Haimchar upazilas.
Following the ceremony, Moni sat in a meeting with conveners of 137 centres, who had acted during the 2008 national polls, at Chandpur Circuit House auditorium.
District AL President Md Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan, General Secretary Abu Naim Patwari Dulal and other leaders of the party of the district unit attended the meeting.
The minister said, "We pledged many things to the people before the polls. Now you should inform me how many of those have been implemented and how many are left."
She expressed concern at the lack of coordination between grassroots-level leaders and activists.
