Thursday, 28 October 2010

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina renewed her government's firm stance to hold the trial of war criminals who committed crimes against humanity during the country's War of Liberation in 1971, reports UNB.
"The process of the trial already began. Insha Allah, we will complete the trial on the soil of Bangladesh," she said addressing the installation and oath taking ceremony of Bangladesh Freedom Fighters' Central Command Council- District and Upazila Command at Bangladesh Army Stadium Wednesday.
Hasina said the trial of the killers of four national leaders will also take place on the soil of Bangladesh.
The PM requested the freedom fighters to extend all out cooperation to the ongoing trial of war criminals for upholding the spirit of the liberation war.
She criticised BNP for patronising the killers and rehabilitating them in politics.
Hasina said in 1973, some 11,000 people who committed crimes in 1971 were arrested. But, after 1975 all of them were released by promulgating Martial Law Ordinance.
"Even many of them were rewarded and the then Parliament passed an indemnity bill to obstruct their trial," she said.
Hasina said the trial of Bangbandhu's killers was completed and the trial of war criminals and killers of the four national leaders will also be completed.
