Warid beautifies, preserves Banani Lake

Warid Telecom, the fastest growing mobile phone operator in the country, has cleaned Banani Lake to make it pollution free and give a pleasant look for recreation of the city people, with the slogan 'Preserve Nature for a Safe Future'.brWarid Telecom CEO Muneer Farooqui on Sunday inaugurated the new look lake. Chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) Mr. Md. Safiqul Islam and Joint Secretary of Housing and Public Works Ministry Mr. Akhtar Ahmed along with other high officials of Rajuk also visited the lake site after inauguration.brWarid Telecom, the fourth largest mobile phone operator by subscribers, spent about Tk 10 million to clean and beautify the lake, which was polluted severely in the past, creating health hazards to the residents of the surrounding areas.brThe telecom operator also planted trees along the walkways, set up fountain, erected sculptures and renovated the walkways with seating arrangements across the lake.brWarid will also maintain the lake round the year to keep it pollution free.brSpeaking on the occasion, Warid Telecom CEO Muneer Farooqui said, Warid is always committed to bring about positive changes in the society through various steps as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.brAs a proud member of Dhabi Group, we believe that we have a commitment to the society, where we not only do our business but also take ownership of the responsibility towards social causes the Warid CEO said. Warid will be more than happy to take part in similar initiatives in the times to come, Farooqui added. brAmong others, Warid Telecom CFO Amyn Merchant and four General Managers--Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, Ashraful H Chowdhury, Mahboob Hossain and Brig. Gen. Ismat Ahmed Chowdhury (Retd) were present in the inauguration ceremony. brEarlier, as part of its CSR activities, including others, Warid donated a large amount to the relief fund for last year's SIDR victims, flood affected peoples, granted scholarships to the poor and presented road safety and traffic materials to Bangladesh Police.
