FE Report
Warid Telecom International Ltd has achieved one million (10 lakh) active subscribers in just 70 days of its operations in the country, which is the fastest subscriber growth by any mobile company here, said a press release.
A concern of the UAE-based Abu Dhabi Group, one of the largest groups in the Middle East, Warid launched its operation on May 10. The company expanded its network to 35 districts in just 50 days of launching, covering the major cities and highways.
Warid is expanding its world-class next generation network (NGN) technology at the fastest possible time to cover the entire country including the most remote areas by the end of this year, the release also said.
Warid Telecom CEO Muneer Farooqui said, "The achievement has been been possible due to Warid's uncompromising commitment to provide maximum network coverage and clear connectivity at the most affordable price. We shall always try to exceed the customers' expectation by bringing in innovative products and service solutions with technological edge."
Since the very first day of operation Warid has introduced a wide array of value added services to meet the customers' demands. The company has launched international roaming services with 60 operators across 30 countries. It has also introduced economy ISD facility, allowing the subscribers to make international calls at rates that will save up to 70 per cent in making overseas calls.
Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) awarded Warid Telecom licence for mobile telecommunications in December 2005 as part of a MOU with the Board of Investment of Bangladesh.
Warid has so far invested over $500 million (50 crore) in the country alone to become the single largest investment here by a Middle East company. Warid's track record in Pakistan, where it established a subscriber base of 4.0 million users in just its first year of operation, serves as a testament to the company's customer-driven business mandate, the release added.
