Foreign Minister Dipu Moni called on Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka Thursday, reports BSS. During the meeting, the foreign minister recalled the pivotal role of the Third King and the people of Bhutan for their unstinted support during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh. "The presence of King Wangchuck during the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh is a fitting tribute and recognition of the contribution of Bhutan to the War of Liberation," she said. Wangchuck, who arrived in Dhaka Thursday on a five-day state visit to Bangladesh, expressed his happiness at being able to visit Bangladesh, particularly during such an auspicious occasion. The issues related to bilateral cooperation in the sectors such as trade, connectivity, energy, education and climate change came up for discussion during the meeting. Referring to the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Thimphu in November 2009 and the return visit by the Prime Minister of Bhutan in January this year, Moni said these visits have infused dynamism into the bilateral relations and raised the relationship to a higher trajectory.
