Warning against ferry overload

Saturday, 5 July 2014

The government has warned of stern measures against the overloading of vessels while ferrying passengers during the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.  Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said Friday, "instant action" would be taken against any water transport irregularity during the festival. Vessels and other modes of transport usually get overcrowded during the Eid season, when people desperately try to reach home to celebrate the occasion with their families. Minister Khan said various steps had been taken to facilitate movement of south-bound passengers from Dhaka. Three new ferries would start plying the Mawa-Kewrakandi, Daulatdia-Paturia routes from July 18, he said. He added that law enforcing personnel would be deployed at Sadarghat.
