Warrant issued for arrest of Rana\\\'s mother

A court in Dhaka on Wednesday issued a warrant for the arrest of six people, including Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana’s mother, in a case filed for violating the building code under the Building Construction Act in connection with the garment factory collapse. Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahinoor Rahman passed the order after accepting the charge-sheet in the case. The accused got arrest warrant are Rana’s mother Marjina Begum, chief executive officer of Savar municipality Uttam Kumer Roy, former engineer of Savar municipality Mahbubur Rahman, urban planner of the municipality Farzana Islam, Mahbubul Alam and Nantu Contractor. The court asked Savar thana police to submit a report over their arrest by August 18. On June 1, over two years after the Rana Plaza tragedy, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police pressed charges against 42 people, including Sohel Rana, in the two cases filed over the garment factory collapse that killed 1,129 people and injured 2,515 on April 24, 2013, according to a news agency.
