Warring clans\\\' clash leaves 50 injured

At least 50 people, including women and children, were injured in a clash between 2 warring influential clans over establishing dominance at Charkoijhuri village in Shahjadpur Upazila in Sirajganj district on Friday. Quoting locals, police said the 2 powerful clans - 'Khan' and 'Pramanik - had been at loggerheads for long over establishing dominion in the locality. In sequel to the conflict, the two groups, equipped with lethal weapons, engaged in a clash in the afternoon following a series of chases and counter-chases. Over 50 people were injured on both sides, including many critically. The people of two rival clans set fire to dwelling houses and damaged them, and also felled 35 trees of their rivals during the sevral hour long mayhem. Being informed, police rushed in and fired 27 rounds of bullet to disperse the clashers. Additional police have been deployed at Charkoijhuri to avert further trouble, according to UNB.
