The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Thursday interrogated managing director of Dhaka WASA (Water Supply & Sewerage Authority) Engr. Taqsem A Khan in connection with an alleged irregularity in the Padma (Jashaldia) Water Treatment Plant Project, reports UNB.
ACC assistant director Sheikh Abdus Salam questioned him for nearly one hour at the ACC head office, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
According to the allegation received by the ACC, Dhaka WASA signed an agreement with a private firm one year ago for approval of the project, and imported substandard pipes before land acquisition of the project causing loss of a huge amount of public money.
Dhaka WASA is implementing the Padma Water Treatment Plant Project to reduce dependency on groundwater. The plant will produce 450 million litres of water per day once completed.
Under the Tk 35.08 billion (3,508-crore) project, nearly 30-km pipeline will be set up to supply purified water to the city-dwellers. Having started in January 2013, the project is expected to be completed by June 2016.
Meanwhile, the ACC Thursday filed a case against the managing director of M/s Unique Wear Product Limited Monirul Haque for allegedly embezzling about Tk 15 million.
ACC deputy director and inquiry officer Abu Nasir filed the case against him with Motijheel Police Station in the capital, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
According to the case statement, Monirul Haque on behalf of M/s Unique Wear Product Limited took loans of Tk 5.8 million from Agrani Bank's branch during 1993-97. But he did not return the loans yet and embezzled a total of Tk 15 million with interest.
