Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday proposed to reduce the tax on all autonomous bodies from 37.5 percent to 25 percent, saying that the main objective of these bodies is not to profit, but to provide essential services to the citizens. Income of autonomous bodies, as per existing provision excluding revenue generated through rendering public services, is liable to be taxed at 37.5 per cent. Considering this issue, the Finance Minister proposed to reduce the rate of tax by a third. Some of the bodies that would benefit from this are Dhaka WASA, Chittagong WASA, Khulna WASA, Rajshahi WASA, RAJUK, BTRC and CAAB, according to a news agency.
