WASA water drinkable?

Wednesday, 24 April 2019

The Managing Director (MD) of the Dhaka Water Supply Authority (WASA) has rejected Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) report that mentioned the people of the city have to burn gas worth Taka 3.32 billion every year to boil water to make it drinkable. The MD claimed that the water of WASA is 100 per cent drinkable.
Anyone living in Dhaka knows it very well that drinking WASA water is not safe. So, people boil water to make it drinkable. Those who drink WASA water directly from taps often fall sick. Diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid are very common water-borne diseases in the capital city.
The TIB report can be a self-evaluation tool for the WASA. We urge the WASA to take the findings of the study in a positive manner. I found people in Geneva can get drinking water easily. They do not have to boil water like us. They can drink water from taps directly-- at home, at park, beside the street.
