Waste not, want not
Friday, 9 March 2012
With the advent of summer, we tighten our belts to face adversaries like, load-shedding, water shortage, sweltering heat and intractable traffic jam. In summer, life is much harder than in winter. As a developing nation (read poor) we have limited resources and we should spend it judiciously, because we know "waste not, want not." Summer is yet to hit us in full force, but we have started experiencing mild to moderate load-shedding.
Surprisingly, even to this day you will find tall buildings in the city bedecked with multi-coloured light bulbs for private celebrations. This kind of lavishness will encourage other people to copy such wasteful extravagance. Instead of using our scarce electricity only when it is necessary, such illumination continues for the next few days!
We all should practice economy in using the utility services like gas, water, electricity which are not adequate and when somewhere some people are experiencing shortage of such civic amenities.
