SYLHET, Jan 01: Farmers in three unions under Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district have been in trouble as they cannot cultivate Boro paddy on about 1,000 acres of land this season due to waterlogging.
Gulaghat Bil (waterbody) spreads over Dakshin Bardal, Uttar Bardal and Badaghat unions and water cannot recede due to absence of a canal from the large area.
It happens as Alamkhali in between Kaukandi and Bardal villages in Matian haor is the only way out for water from the vast site.
Locals said since an embankment was made permanently, water stagnation has been created, and that's why they will not be able to transplant Boro seedlings in the area this season.
The matter has already been taken to the notice of the upazila administration, said farmers of Kutubkhali village.
They also apprehend if measures are not taken immediately over 1,000 acres of land will remain uncultivated this winter.
Tahirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abul Hashem told newsmen that the farmers met him and informed about the matter. Steps will be taken after field visit soon, he hoped.
