Watermelons galore in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Apr 4: Huge quantities of watermelon are coming into Joypurhat city and local markets but the price of this coveted summer fruit still remains on the high side. Abdur Rahaman, a fruit trader of Joypurhat city railgate market told the FE that this year watermelon supply is adequate but price is high. Customers of various areas of the district claim that this year watermelon supply is good but traders are taking high price for it. Now watermelon is being sold in local and city market at Tk 20 to 22 per kg. The traders of this market said that they are buying it at Tk 700 per maund so they are forced to sell it at a higher rate. In spite of high price, a vast numbers of customer are gathering to buy the watermelon in local market everyday.
