WB-IMF mission arrives today

Monday, 9 November 2009

A joint technical mission of the World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) will arrive in the city today to assess the country's debt management and the requirement of future financial assistance from the multi-donor agencies, reports BSS.
Official sources told the news agency Sunday that the team would stay in Dhaka for 10 days when it would have meetings with the finance ministry, the central bank and with some other related departments of the government.
"The main purpose of the teams' visit is to draw a debt management schedule for Bangladesh," a WB source said.
The mission is coming to Dhaka following a decision at the WB-IMF board meeting, held last month in Istanbul. Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith attended the meeting.
The country at the moment does not have any loan programme with the IMF, the official lending agency of the World Bank. But the issue of future lending to projects like Padma Bridge and other infrastructure development schemes may come up for discussions during the meeting with the joint mission.
